MUSIC AND THE BRAIN

For many children and adults in most cultures, learning language and learning music is an easy, ongoing part of life. Music and language become a means of learning and participating in the cultural, emotional and social stages of life.

However, for some with an inherited gene and others with brain injuries, learning music is more difficult. Those with this difficulty, known as amusia, have an ongoing struggle in recognizing and processing pitch, producing musical…

Some Thoughts on Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding and Recovery

Knowledge can be defined as information, facts or data.

Wisdom can be defined as understanding, insight, or intelligence

Understanding can be defined as being considerate, kind, or thoughtful

In recovery from brain injuries and brain disorders, we need some knowledge, some wisdom and some understanding. We require these qualities in ourselves and in those who nurture, support and care for us.

Lois, I am now 61 years old. September 6, 2008, I had a massive hemorrhagic stroke. Ironically, it is the best thing that has ever happened to me. An avalanche of novel perceptions and awarenesses that I would otherwise not experience. The stroke immediately left my right side completely paralyzed and me unable to speak. Fortunately, I continue to have a tremendously robust recovery. Thanks for this site!

Thank you for responding Lois. My son David had a bad accident 23 years ago. I have written a book that is the caretaker's story from the moment of the accident through the six weeks of his coma. I would like to make a website for it and don't know how. I like your website. Did you do it by yourself? D.
