Some Thoughts on Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding and Recovery

Knowledge can be defined as information, facts or data.
Wisdom can be defined as understanding, insight, or intelligence
Understanding can be defined as being considerate, kind, or thoughtful
In recovery from brain injuries and brain disorders, we need some knowledge, some wisdom and some understanding. We require these qualities in ourselves and in those who nurture, support and care for us.

We have the facts as to why we are the way we are; our brains have become miswired.
We have wisdom that what has happened is in the past.
We indeed understand that recovery will take awhile. We try to be considerate of ourselves and others. But wait, I still am impatient, angry at times. I am tried, frustrated and hurt that this has happened to me.

OK, now what? Now we must concentrate on the present and the future using knowledge, insight and intelligence.

Shall I continue to whine and complain about my problems, my aches and pains?
A more practical alternative to these negative thoughts and actions is to become more positive, more hopeful.

There is support available in articles and books. There is a lot of information and data available on the web. Agencies which concentrate on the specific brain injuries and illness or on the aging process have facts and groups available. We are not alone in our recovery,
The choice is yours: (1) to gain more knowledge – facts (2)To gain more wisdom – perspective (3) To gain more understanding - tolerance. Or to continue to be (1) oh so sad that this has happened; (2) to be alone and (3) to be mad.

Which person would you like to spend time with, to visit, to share? The person searching for change or the person stuck?

Using knowledge, wisdom and understanding is one key to maintaining a positive recovery. After all, these three qualities or values were available to us before. We can again use them to sustain us now.
